Australian singer Sia has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Daniel Bernad, after two years of marriage. The couple, who tied the knot on December 28, 2022, have now listed their date of separation as March 18, 2025. The news emerged from court documents filed on Wednesday, March 19, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. Sia, known for hits like “Breathe Me,” also revealed in the filing that she quietly welcomed her third child, Somersault Wonder Bernad, with Bernad 11 months ago.

In the court documents, Sia is seeking legal and physical custody of their 11-month-old child but is open to granting Bernad visitation rights. Interestingly, she has requested that the court refrain from awarding spousal support to her ex-partner. Representatives for Sia have yet to provide a statement in response to enquiries from PEOPLE.
The Grammy-nominated artist had a low-key wedding with Bernad in May 2023, following their legal marriage. The intimate ceremony took place at Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s Villa Olivetta in Portofino, Italy, with only six guests in attendance. Prior to her marriage with Bernad, Sia was previously married to Erik Anders Lang, a union that ended in December 2016. The couple had tied the knot in August 2014.
Before her marriage to Bernad, Sia became a mother to two teenage boys back in 2019, when they were both 18 and nearing the end of their time in foster care. In a candid interview with InStyle in 2020, the “Cheap Thrills” singer shared her journey towards motherhood, which included struggles with infertility and failed attempts at IVF treatments during her marriage to Lang. The decision to become a parent was sparked by watching the 2016 HBO documentary Foster, highlighting the challenges faced by the foster care system.
Following her heart and the desire to provide a loving home, Sia adopted one of the boys she saw in the documentary, only to also welcome his group home companion, Che, into her family. Reflecting on her experience, Sia expressed her eagerness to embrace motherhood, a lifelong dream that ultimately led her to build a non-traditional yet loving family unit. The separation from Bernad marks a new chapter for Sia as she navigates co-parenting responsibilities while prioritising her children’s well-being and her own.
As news of Sia’s divorce surfaces, fans and followers await further updates on the unfolding situation. The singer-songwriter’s personal life has always been a subject of interest, with her music often reflecting her emotional journey. With a supportive fan base and resilient spirit, Sia continues to inspire through her artistry and now, her candid portrayal of life changes and challenges. Stay tuned for more developments in this evolving story as Sia moves forward with grace and determination, embracing whatever the future holds.
