Netflix Open to Collaboration with Karla Sofía Gascón

Netflix has expressed its willingness to work with Karla Sofía Gascón in the future. Despite recent controversies surrounding the Spanish actress and her role in the Oscar campaign for Emilia Pérez, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos stated that the company would consider collaborating with Gascón again. In a recent interview with Variety, Sarandos discussed Gascón’s involvement in the Mexico-set musical-thriller, Emilia Pérez, directed by Jacques Audiard and starring Zoe Saldaña. Sarandos acknowledged the film’s strong performance during the awards season, winning accolades at the 2025 BAFTAs and Critics Choice Awards, as well as receiving multiple nominations at the 97th Academy Awards.
Gascón, who made history as the first openly transgender actress to be nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars, faced backlash due to past social media posts that resurfaced, criticising various topics including Muslim culture, George Floyd, and diversity.
