Guns N’ Roses, the iconic rock band, recently announced the departure of their drummer, Frank Ferrer, marking the end of his nearly two-decade journey with the group. Ferrer, who held the title of the longest-tenured drummer in Guns N’ Roses history, bid farewell in an “amicable” split as revealed in a statement posted on the band’s Instagram on March 19.

The statement expressed gratitude towards Ferrer for his friendship, creativity, and unwavering presence during his 19-year stint with the band. It outlined Ferrer’s journey, starting from his introduction to the group in June 2006 during a show and his subsequent contributions to various tours, including the recent ones featuring the reunited trio of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan. Ferrer’s final show with Guns N’ Roses took place on November 5, 2023, in Mexico.
The current lineup of Guns N’ Roses, comprised of founding members Axl Rose, Duff McKagan, Slash, as well as Dizzy Reed, Richard Fortus, and Melissa Reese, paid tribute to Ferrer in their social media post, acknowledging his instrumental role within the band over the years. Frank Ferrer, aged 58, initially stepped into the group as a replacement for Bryan “Brain” Mantia. He graced the drum kit during pivotal tours such as the Not in This Lifetime… Tour from 2016 to 2019 and the band’s 2023 tour spanning from June to November.
Reflecting on his time with Guns N’ Roses, Ferrer previously shared insights about his approach to rehearsals and performances. In an interview with My Global Mind in January, he discussed his preparation rituals before gigs, emphasising the importance of rest and abstaining from alcohol while on tour. Ferrer’s dedication to his craft was evident as he highlighted the significance of delivering a stellar performance each night and rising to the occasion despite any initial nerves.
Over the years, Guns N’ Roses has seen various drummers come and go, with Frank Ferrer’s chapter now drawing to a close. His departure marks a significant transition for the band, as they continue to captivate audiences with their enigmatic presence and timeless music. Fans of Guns N’ Roses eagerly anticipate the group’s upcoming European tour gigs slated to kick off in May, showcasing a new era for the legendary rock ensemble.
As the music industry evolves and iconic bands navigate changes in their lineup, the legacy of Guns N’ Roses remains etched in the annals of rock history. The departure of Frank Ferrer serves as a poignant moment for fans and band members alike, as they reflect on the drummer’s indelible impact and contributions to the band’s rich tapestry of sound.
In the realm of rock music, transitions like these signal both an end and a new beginning, as bands like Guns N’ Roses forge ahead on their musical odyssey. Frank Ferrer’s departure symbolises a chapter closing within the band’s narrative, while also paving the way for fresh possibilities and creative ventures in the ever-evolving landscape of rock ‘n’ roll.
