Frontier Airlines has made a bold move by seizing the opportunity to cater to dissatisfied passengers of its competitor, Southwest Airlines. In a recent statement reported by PEOPLE, Frontier Airlines unveiled a new offer called the “Economy Bundle,” which includes perks such as a free carry-on bag, free seat selection, and free flight changes for passengers booking flights between March 18 and August 18. Additionally, free checked bags will be included for flights departing from May 28 to August 18, with bookings required by March 24 to avail of this special promotion.

Barry Biffle, the president and CEO of Frontier Airlines, expressed the airline’s commitment to providing value and satisfaction to travellers, contrasting the recent policy changes made by other airlines. He stated, “Some airlines are walking away from what travellers love, but we’re running towards it. Think of this as the ultimate ‘divorce your old airline’ deal. If travellers show us the love, we’ll make these perks permanent.” The emphasis was placed on bringing back the elements that people appreciate about flying – free bags, seat selection, and flexibility – without additional fees. This strategic move comes in response to Southwest Airlines announcing the discontinuation of its long-standing free checked bag policy.
Southwest Airlines, known for its customer-centric approach, surprised loyal customers by revealing plans to implement charges for checked bags starting from May 28, 2025, for passengers not enrolled in loyalty programmes or travelling in business class. This decision marked a significant departure from the airline’s tradition of offering complimentary checked bags for nearly six decades. The specifics of the new charges for checked bags have yet to be disclosed.
Moreover, Southwest Airlines’ recent updates have not been limited to baggage policies, as the airline also announced the transition from its open-seating policy to assigned seating. The initiative to sell assigned seats is expected to be rolled out in the latter half of 2025, with passengers experiencing the new seating arrangement from early 2026 onwards. These changes reflect the evolving landscape of the airline industry, with carriers adapting their offerings to meet changing consumer preferences and market dynamics.
Frontier Airlines’ proactive stance in providing enhanced benefits to passengers during a time of industry shifts showcases a commitment to customer satisfaction and value. By offering a compelling alternative to traditional airline services and addressing the changing needs of travellers, Frontier Airlines aims to position itself as a preferred choice for discerning passengers. As competition in the airline sector intensifies, the focus on customer experience and value-added services becomes increasingly crucial for driving loyalty and retaining a competitive edge in the market.
With airlines navigating a dynamic and competitive environment, the strategic decisions made by carriers like Frontier and Southwest Airlines reflect the ongoing evolution of the industry. As passengers continue to seek value, convenience, and quality service in their travel experiences, airlines must adapt and innovate to meet these expectations. Frontier Airlines’ response to industry developments underscores the importance of listening to customer feedback and offering solutions that resonate with travellers, reinforcing the significance of customer-centric strategies in a changing marketplace.
