A Virginia woman recently had an emotional reunion with the first responders who saved her life after a life-altering farming accident in Amelia County. Ashley Lawrence and her husband were working on their farm when Ashley’s leg became entangled in heavy machinery, leading to the amputation of her leg and finger. Despite the traumatic experience, Lawrence survived the ordeal and, seven months later, had the opportunity to reconnect with the Amelia first responders who played a crucial role in her rescue.

During the reunion on Thursday, March 13, Lawrence expressed her gratitude towards the first responders, acknowledging that they witnessed her in a vulnerable state during a traumatic situation. Although Lawrence admitted she couldn’t recall everyone’s face, she felt it was important to thank them for their efforts. Reflecting on the accident, Lawrence recounted being trapped in a harrowing position, with her leg caught in the machinery and her hands stuck, while her husband operated a tractor nearby. The prompt arrival of the first responders at the scene was crucial in ensuring Lawrence’s survival.
Despite the severity of her injuries, Lawrence’s determination and will to live remained unwavering. She received a blood transfusion en route to VCU Hospital and credits her strong drive to survive to her daughter, who inspired her to fight through the adversities she faced. Apart from the amputations she underwent as a result of the accident, Lawrence also sustained permanent damage to another finger. However, she has since made remarkable progress in her recovery journey and has resumed many of her daily activities with resilience and perseverance.
