Rick Springfield, the renowned singer behind hits like “Jessie’s Girl,” recently shared some surprising news. A whole-body MRI scan conducted by Prenuvo revealed that the 75-year-old musician still carries brain damage from a fall he experienced on stage in Las Vegas back in 2000. Recalling the incident, Springfield explained, “I fell 25 feet, hit my head, wood came down and hit my head again, and then my head hit the stage once more.” Initially, he believed he had only broken his wrist, but the recent scan revealed the extent of the impact on his brain.

Despite the potentially distressing news, Springfield remains resolute in his approach to such revelations. He highlighted that while some individuals prefer not to uncover health issues, he takes the opposite stance. Drawing from a personal tragedy involving his father, who succumbed to an untreated aliment, he emphasised the importance of being proactive in seeking medical insights. Reflecting on his own circumstances, Springfield remarked, “If you want to live long, you have to be prepared for some bad news now and then.”

In a bid to maintain his vitality and youthfulness, Springfield maintains a disciplined routine. Despite his age, he shared that he still feels youthful in spirit, noting, “Then I see people dying from old age and disease and go, ‘Wow, I’m the same age as old people!’” Emphasising the significance of physical well-being, he exercises daily, follows a predominantly pescatarian diet, and reduced his alcohol consumption two years ago. Springfield noted the positive impact of cutting back on alcohol on his mental health, particularly in managing his longstanding battle with depression.
Exploring unconventional methods for enhancing his well-being, Springfield candidly discussed his experiences with ketamine and LSD treatments. While ketamine did not yield the desired outcomes for him, he found the effects of micro-dosing LSD to be more promising. Expressing a willingness to embrace alternative therapies for personal growth and happiness, he acknowledged, “I’m always searching.” Through his openness to innovative approaches, Springfield exemplifies a proactive attitude towards holistic health and well-being.
Contrary to the notion that wisdom inherently accompanies age, Springfield argued that true insight emerges from introspection and self-awareness. Delving into his reflections on mortality, he shared that acceptance of the inevitable has granted him a deeper understanding of life’s impermanence. Juxtaposing his artistic ventures with contemplations on death, he underscored the importance of acknowledging one’s mortality while embracing the unknown aspects of existence.
As Springfield continues to pursue his musical endeavours, including the upcoming ’80s tour scheduled for May, he remains committed to a holistic approach to well-being. Recognising the interconnectedness of physical and mental health, he champions a balanced lifestyle that prioritises self-care and introspection. By sharing his journey of self-discovery and resilience, Springfield offers a beacon of hope and inspiration for his fans and admirers, embodying a spirit of continuous growth and evolution in the face of life’s challenges.
