A drunk tourist who took an illegal plunge into Rome’s iconic Trevi Fountain has been handed a lifetime ban and fined as a consequence of his actions. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 3, when a group of three visitors from New Zealand were being escorted away from the popular tourist spot by Rome Capital Police. Despite efforts to control the situation, one individual, a 30-year-old man, managed to break free from the group and impulsively jumped back into the fountain’s waters. The police department confirmed that alcohol played a role in the incident.

The offender was slapped with a hefty fine of 500 euros (approximately $540) and was informed that he would no longer be permitted to visit the fountain for the rest of his life.
