A realtor in Ohio has recently faced repercussions after leaving a hateful message on a restaurant receipt instead of a tip, sparking outrage and support for the targeted waiter.

The incident occurred at Cazuelas Mexican Restaurant & Cantina in Columbus, Ohio, where a customer left a handwritten message for the waiter named Ricardo. The receipt showed a total bill of $87.84 with “Zero. You suck” written on the tip line and “I hope Trump deports you!!!” on the signature line.

The incident, which took place on Sunday, March 2, quickly gained attention when images of the receipt were posted on Facebook, triggering a wave of public condemnation towards the customer’s behaviour.
The woman responsible for the offensive message was reportedly employed by CENTURY 21 Real Estate. According to a statement by the company to WHNT News 19, they take the matter seriously and have severed ties with the agent in question.
The Columbus Realtor Board also addressed the issue, confirming that the woman is not a current member of Columbus REALTORS and condemning her discriminatory statements as not aligned with their values.
Cazuelas Mexican Cantina expressed their disappointment over the incident, emphasising that hate has no place in their establishment. The head of marketing at the restaurant, Fabio Oribo, defended Ricardo, stating that he is a dedicated worker with no history of poor customer service.
Since the incident went viral on social media, the community has rallied around Ricardo, with one person even setting up a fundraiser on GoFundMe. The initiative has exceeded its target of $1,000, raising over $9,550 in support of the waiter.
The restaurant’s management has acknowledged the overwhelming support from the community but has remained tight-lipped on providing further details about the incident, despite requests for more information.
The backlash against the realtor’s actions serves as a reminder of the importance of respect and decency in all interactions, especially in the service industry where individuals work hard to provide for their customers.
The incident at Cazuelas Mexican Restaurant & Cantina underscores the power of social media in amplifying voices against discrimination and standing up for those who face unjust treatment in their workplaces.
In a display of unity and solidarity, the community has shown their support for Ricardo, highlighting the positive impact of coming together to reject hateful behaviour and promote kindness and empathy.
