Jelly Roll Faces Visitation Challenges After Release from Jail

Jelly Roll, the country singer, has recently shared his heartfelt journey of fatherhood following his release from jail on the SmartLess podcast. In a candid conversation with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, Jelly Roll opened up about the difficulties he faced in trying to build a relationship with his daughter, Bailee Ann, 17, after being released.
Upon his return home, Jelly Roll faced obstacles in seeing his daughter due to his criminal past. He recounted, “Her mother, at the time, because I was rightfully so a f—— criminal, wouldn’t let me see her.” This led Jelly Roll to take legal steps to secure supervised visits through the courtroom to gradually cultivate a bond with Bailee Ann.
Reflecting on the challenges he faced, Jelly Roll shared, “I had to step that very slow, build a relationship, then six hours on Friday evening, but she had to be home before 10 p.m. I just had to I had to keep going to court every six months and going, ‘Look, I’m continuing to prove I’m changing.’ Music, like being famous, wasn’t even a thought then. I just wanted to be a good dad.”
Despite the initial hurdles, Jelly Roll expressed immense pride in his daughter’s achievements and growth over the years. He highlighted Bailee Ann’s academic success, stating, “She’s got one of the highest GPAs at her high school. She’s a dual enrollment kid and is a junior going to college.” Jelly Roll, who also has a son named Noah, 8, emphasized the strong bond he shares with his daughter, noting, “Me and my wife have had full custody of her for eight years. This is one of our best friends.”
The birth of his daughter in 2008 was a significant turning point in Jelly Roll’s life, marking a newfound sense of purpose and responsibility. Despite his past involvement in drug dealing, Jelly Roll acknowledged the profound impact fatherhood had on him, leading him to prioritize his family above all else. He shared, “I could no longer be selfish. There was something that was solely relying on me. I knew that that was an important task. So I wanted to take it seriously.”
