Adam Scott and Ben Stiller recently found themselves in a nerve-wracking position whilst working on a new advertisement with Jake from State Farm. The trio collaborated on a project pegged to the second season of the Apple TV+ hit show Severance, which focuses on assisting young adults in transitioning from their parents’ auto insurance policies.

The advertisement, directed by Ben Stiller, features Jake from State Farm, also known as Kevin Miles, joining Scott’s character Mark S at Lumon Industries. Scott opened up exclusively to PEOPLE about his experience working alongside Miles, expressing how starstruck he felt during the encounter.
Upon reaching the set, both Scott and Stiller were brimming with excitement. Scott reminisced, “I got there, and we were both like, ‘Have you seen Jake yet? Have you met him?’ Ben was like, ‘I’ve seen him. I was kind of nervous, so I haven’t met him yet.'” The Emmy nominee added that their nerves stemmed from the fact that Jake has become a significant figure in people’s lives, describing him as a “staple.”
Scott further elaborated, highlighting Jake’s amiable nature and willingness to experiment during filming. He praised Jake for being “lovely, funny, and super game to try a bunch of different stuff,” emphasizing his exceptional qualities.
The theme of ‘severing’ from parental auto insurance is a relatable concept for Scott. He mentioned, “Starting out on your own is always scary… I was really lucky, so actually making that leap was a big deal.” As a parent himself, Scott acknowledged the significant milestone it represents when children prepare to move out and become independent.
The blending of the seemingly disparate elements of auto insurance and the Severance world in the ad impressed Scott, who commended the clever integration of both themes. He anticipated that fans of the show would enjoy the fresh perspective offered by the advertisement.
The ad, he believed, served as a natural and seamless tie between the two worlds, providing an entertaining experience for viewers. Scott’s hope is that the audience will appreciate the unique approach taken in merging these unrelated topics.
Fans of Severance can catch new episodes airing on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Apple TV+, ensuring a thrilling viewing experience. The collaboration between the show and State Farm, brought to life in the advertisement, promises an engaging and humorous portrayal of the challenges faced by young adults transitioning to independence.
