Kyla Pratt Celebrates 16th Birthday with Method Man on ‘One on One’

Kyla Pratt recently reminisced about her 16th birthday celebration, which took place on the set of the UPN sitcom One on One. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards, Pratt, now 38, reflected on her time filming the show as a teenager. She shared that she has “absolutely” rewatched the series since it ended in 2006, finding joy in reliving the memories of the past.
One standout moment for Pratt was during the second season of the show in 2002 when an episode featured her character, Breanna Barnes, attempting to raise money by throwing a rave. The special episode coincided with Pratt’s 16th birthday, and to her surprise, Method Man made an appearance as a guest star. Pratt vividly recalled the moments on set, which included a big birthday cake and emotional photos with Method Man that even brought her to tears.
Looking back at the series now, Pratt appreciates how it sheds light on the behind-the-scenes experiences that were happening during filming. One on One, which starred Pratt alongside Flex Alexander as her on-screen dad, ran for five seasons from 2001 to 2006. The show followed the storyline of Breanna moving in with her dad for the first time after her mum relocates.
Throughout her career, Pratt has transitioned from child actor to an accomplished performer. Starting her acting journey at a young age, Pratt’s early credits include roles in popular shows like The Baby-Sitters Club and appearances in films such as Barney’s Great Adventure. Despite her early success, Pratt credits her mother for ensuring she enjoyed her childhood and did not feel the weight of adult responsibilities until later in her career.
In her personal life, Pratt shares two children with her partner Danny Kirkpatrick – Lyric, 14, and Liyah, 11. She revealed that both her kids have shown an interest in the entertainment industry, with Lyric even starring in a few commercials. As Pratt looks ahead, she has her sights set on various projects, including a potential biopic and a desire to delve into more physically demanding roles that require training.
