Tatum O’Neal Responds to Late Father Ryan O’Neal Excluding Her from His Will

Tatum O’Neal, the Oscar-winning actress, has recently made headlines after sharing her reaction to being intentionally left out of her late father, Ryan O’Neal’s will.

In a heartfelt interview with Variety for their February 26 issue, Tatum opened up about her struggles with addiction, surviving a stroke, and coming to terms with her father’s decision to exclude her from his will. The poignant interview shed light on their complicated relationship, which Tatum previously detailed in her 2004 biography, “A Paper Life”.

Ryan O’Neal, who passed away on December 8, 2023, battled chronic leukemia since 2001 and prostate cancer since 2012. Tatum believes that her candid memoir, where she revealed details of her father’s violent temper and her own traumatic experiences, led to her exclusion from his will.

Despite facing financial challenges, including significant healthcare expenses and losses due to addiction, Tatum expressed her disappointment at being disregarded in her father’s final wishes. However, she defiantly stated to Variety, “Keep it, motherf—-r”, showing her resolve in the face of adversity.

During the interview, Tatum’s son Kevin McEnroe stood by her side, echoing her sentiments by referring to the inheritance as “blood money”. The mother-son duo highlighted that their focus is on moving forward, with Kevin emphasising that success and personal growth are the ultimate forms of revenge.

Looking ahead, Tatum shared her optimism about an upcoming documentary project about her life, which she hopes will provide financial stability. Kevin emphasised his mother’s journey of reclaiming her narrative and freeing herself from the weight of her father’s legacy.

Despite their strained past, Tatum and Ryan’s relationship took a positive turn in 2008, following the diagnosis of Ryan’s then-partner, Farah Fawcett, with cancer. Following Fawcett’s passing in 2009, Tatum and Ryan reconnected, with Ryan expressing remorse for past grievances, leading to a heartfelt reconciliation.

Reflecting on their reunion, Tatum recalled how vital her father was to her, stating, “He’s all I have in terms of family, and I needed him in my life.” A poignant moment captured in a 2020 photo shared by Tatum’s son Sean McEnroe, showcasing the family’s unity and healing over the years.
