Bob the Drag Queen recently shared his experience of gaining respect from none other than ‘Boston Rob’ Mariano on The Traitors. The former RuPaul’s Drag Race winner was thrilled to discuss his time at The Traitors during an interview with PEOPLE at REACH LA’s 3rd Annual Celebration Gala held on Feb. 16. Bob’s encounter with Boston Rob on the show left a lasting impression, with Bob asserting that he left Boston Rob with “no choice but to respect” him.
In a surprising turn of events, Bob found himself at odds with Boston Rob when he unexpectedly faced betrayal from his fellow traitor. Despite the unexpected betrayal by Boston Rob, Bob remained resolute and asserted his presence, ultimately leading to his elimination by Boston Rob in episode 4 of the show. According to Bob, the dynamic between him and Boston Rob was intense, with each vying to establish dominance in the competition.
Reflecting on his journey on The Traitors, Bob highlighted the competitive nature of the show, stating, “I think there was a big dog eat big dog-type of vibe going on there, and there could only be one king of the castle.” His resilience and strategic gameplay led to him gaining Boston Rob’s respect, even though Bob was eventually eliminated from the competition. Despite Boston Rob’s impressive track record on Survivor, Bob commended another contestant, Danielle Reyes, as an “absolute icon” on the show.
Bob praised Danielle Reyes for her significant impact on the world of reality TV, citing her game-changing strategies and contributions to the genre. Known for her appearances on Big Brother and her strategic gameplay, Danielle remains a formidable player on The Traitors. Bob emphasised the profound influence Danielle has had on reality TV, revolutionising the genre with her innovative gameplay and strategic acumen.
During the event, Bob was present to honour Peppermint, the first trans contestant and Drag Race alum on The Traitors, with REACH LA’s Trans Vanguard Award. Peppermint’s advocacy for the trans community and her efforts to promote inclusivity and support for trans individuals were recognised and celebrated at the gala. Peppermint highlighted the shared aspirations and needs of the trans community, emphasising the importance of access to essential resources and rights.
As the recipient of the Trans Vanguard Award, Peppermint reiterated the core needs of the trans community, stressing the significance of fair treatment, healthcare, housing, safety, and job security. Amidst the current political climate concerning transgender rights, Peppermint underscored the urgency of addressing these issues and advocating for the rights and well-being of the trans community. The gala served as a platform to recognise and celebrate the contributions of Peppermint and individuals championing LGBTQIA+ rights and inclusivity.
REACH LA, the organisation hosting the gala, aims to engage, empower, and celebrate LGBTQIA+ individuals of colour and their communities through various initiatives, including social enterprise, creative arts, personal development, and health and wellness programmes.
