Christine Fadriga, a 59-year-old caregiver from the Philippines, embarked on a journey to the United States with a singular goal – to provide a better life for her four children. Her story is one of sacrifice, dedication, and unwavering love for her family.

For nearly two decades, Christine has devoted her life to caring for others in Arizona and California. Her most recent client, Bette Rosen, passed away at the age of 97, leaving Christine with a profound sense of loss. Reflecting on her time with Bette, Christine fondly remembers her as a strong, kind, and loving soul who brought light into her life.
Despite the emotional challenges of her work, Christine sees caregiving as a calling to tend to the sick, dying, and needy. Her story is now being featured in ‘A Caregiver’s Heart,’ one of 20 short films that aim to shine a spotlight on the crucial role of caregivers in society. This initiative is part of the Well Beings campaign, a public health project founded by PBS’ flagship D.C. station WETA.
Before making the life-altering decision to move to the US, Christine ran a successful flower shop in Cebu City, Philippines. However, circumstances led her to close the shop and venture into a new chapter of her life as a caregiver. Leaving her children behind was undoubtedly one of the most challenging choices she had to make, but she was determined to provide them with a brighter future.
Transitioning from a flourishing business owner to a dedicated caregiver was not easy for Christine, but she embraced the opportunity wholeheartedly. Over the years, she has worked with clients facing a myriad of health challenges, finding solace in the connection between her passion for flowers and her caregiving vocation.
Now, with her children grown and thriving in different parts of the world, Christine reflects on her journey with pride and gratitude. Despite the distance, she remains a pillar of strength for her children, drawing inspiration from her own experiences as a caregiver to guide them towards a better future.
Looking ahead, Christine envisions a future where she can support other mothers in similar situations, empowering them to provide for their families while maintaining a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Her story serves as a testament to the resilience, compassion, and selflessness that define the caregiving community.
As ‘A Caregiver’s Heart’ premieres in Irvine, Calif., on National Caregivers Day, Christine’s narrative stands as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by caregivers around the world. Her unwavering dedication to her work and her family is a testament to the enduring spirit of maternal love and the profound impact of selfless acts of kindness.
