A 14-year-old boy who had gone missing while snowmobiling near the Utah-Idaho border has been found safe after spending nearly 24 hours alone in freezing temperatures. The teenager was located on Sunday, Feb. 9, a day after he disappeared in the Whites Canyon area of Idaho.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the boy was with a group when he got separated from them, prompting a search effort that lasted several hours. The group eventually called for help on Saturday, Feb. 8, after failing to locate him on their own. Fortunately, the missing boy was found the following day and was transported back to a command staging location for medical evaluation.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, including a snowstorm that dumped 10 to 12 inches of snow in the area and temperatures as low as -15 degrees Fahrenheit, search and rescue teams were able to locate the teenager. Franklin County Sheriff Cuyler Stoker mentioned that, apart from being cold, the boy was in good health and spirits when he was found.

It was reported that the boy, described as a first-time snowmobiler, decided to stop riding the sled as he felt unable to go any further. The Cache County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that they received multiple signals from the boy’s cellphone during the search, aiding in pinpointing his location. The successful rescue operation was a collaborative effort involving various counties and agencies.
Sheriff Stoker expressed his gratitude towards everyone involved in the search and highlighted the community’s dedication to helping those in need during emergencies. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the reunion of the boy with his family and underscored the importance of community support in such situations.

This heartwarming rescue story serves as a reminder of the resilience and unity within local communities when faced with adversity. The quick response and coordinated efforts of search and rescue teams played a crucial role in ensuring the safe return of the missing boy. The boy’s ordeal, though challenging, ultimately ended on a positive note thanks to the commitment and determination of all involved parties.
As the boy receives further medical attention as a precautionary measure, authorities continue to stress the importance of safety measures and preparedness when engaging in outdoor activities, especially in harsh winter conditions.
