Florida Man Arrested for Alleged Murder of Girlfriend

A Florida man has been taken into custody for the tragic killing of his girlfriend at their residence. Andrew Ridgeway, 46, now faces charges of second-degree murder and providing false information to law enforcement in relation to the death of 48-year-old Stacy Ann Powell. According to Auburndale, Florida police, Powell was reported missing two days after her last activity was noted on her work computer.
Authorities visited Powell’s home on Thursday, Feb. 6, to conduct a welfare check. Upon arrival, they encountered a handyman who had been hired to carry out repair work. The handyman disclosed that both Powell and Ridgeway were absent from the residence. During this interaction, Ridgeway phoned the handyman to inquire about the presence of law enforcement officers, indicating that he was monitoring their movements through security cameras installed at the property.
In subsequent discussions with an officer, Ridgeway claimed he was in North Carolina accompanying Stacy’s grandmother. He also asserted that Powell had travelled to Orlando International Airport via Uber on Wednesday, Feb. 5, before boarding a flight to Jamaica to visit her unwell father. However, investigations swiftly revealed inconsistencies in Ridgeway’s account, leading to further scrutiny.
Following the execution of a search warrant on Feb. 6, authorities made a grim discovery. Stacy Ann Powell had been subjected to a vicious and fatal assault. Auburndale Police Chief Terry Storie remarked on the brutality of the attack, highlighting the challenges faced in identifying Powell due to the severity of the injuries inflicted.
Law enforcement officials suspect that Powell met her untimely demise on the late afternoon or early evening of Feb. 4.
