Benson Boone, the 24-year-old Grammy-nominated artist, has recounted an embarrassing encounter with a fan that occurred early in his touring career. During a recent appearance on the Life Uncut Podcast, which aired on 1 October, Boone opened up about a cringe-worthy moment that he described as “horrific,” shedding light on the less glamorous side of being a rising star.

The incident took place approximately two and a half years ago, long before Boone gained widespread recognition and began filling arenas. At the time, he had just launched his tour at an amphitheatre, an event he considered a significant milestone in his burgeoning career. However, an unexpected circumstance transformed what should have been a triumphant moment into a comical misadventure.

Boone admitted that he was not fully informed about the backstage bathroom situation at his first tour stop and found himself without a private restroom option. Instead, it appeared that he had to share facilities with attendees. Unfortunately, he did not realise this until it was too late. Recalling a childhood fantasy, Boone jokingly referred to times when he and his friends would amusingly remove their trousers entirely while using urinals, a practice he acknowledged was perhaps “unnecessary” but undeniably amusing.

Believing the bathroom was private, Boone and his companions decided to replicate this quirky childhood ritual at the venue. As he entered the restroom, he disclosed that he dropped his trousers to his ankles without a second thought, only to be halted in his tracks by the sudden arrival of a stranger.
While in the midst of attending to nature’s call, Boone heard the door to the bathroom open. Assuming it was one of his mates, he continued with what he was doing and paid little attention to his surroundings. However, he was not aware that a fan had just walked in and, upon recognising the singer, stood frozen in disbelief.
The unexpected encounter escalated quickly, with Boone and the fan engaging in a somewhat surreal conversation amidst the awkwardness. “I asked him if he was going to the show, and he responded with a simple ‘Yeah,’” Boone recalled. His inquiry about what the fan was doing backstage prompted a bemused response: “Uh, this is the bathroom. What are you doing back here?”
Boone noted that the exchange was fraught with embarrassment, leaving him feeling “horrified.” Fortunately for him, the fan proved to be remarkably understanding, helping to diffuse the tension of an undeniably awkward moment. Boone described the fan as “a great guy” who handled the situation with grace, allowing both to ultimately laugh it off.
As the encounter drew to a close, Boone shook the fan’s hand – albeit after he had washed his own – marking an end to the unusual interaction. For Boone, this experience serves as a reminder that even celebrities face embarrassing situations, reinforcing his relatability as an artist.
Currently, Boone is in the midst of his Walking Man Tour, which will resume on 26 October in Seoul, South Korea. As he continues his rise to stardom, stories like these contribute to the more human side of celebrity, showing that even those in the spotlight can find themselves in unanticipated and cringeworthy predicaments.
