Mason Thames and Mckenna Grace shared some spicy moments on the set of their new movie, “Regretting You,” where they played the lovestruck characters Clara and Miller. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the young stars revealed that they improvised “a lot of kisses” during filming. Thames, 18, mentioned that even though their spontaneous smooches didn’t always make it into the final cut, they enjoyed adding that extra touch of romance to their scenes.

One particular scene involving a prom-posal in the Colleen Hoover adaptation directed by Josh Boone prompted the actors to incorporate multiple kisses. Thames recalled how they decided that Clara and Miller would share a smooch for that moment, and they embraced the opportunity in every take. Grace, 19, jokingly pointed out that they watched the movie and discovered that their improvised kisses didn’t make it to the final edit, much to their surprise and amusement.

The chemistry between Thames and Grace extended beyond the screen, with rumours swirling after they were spotted holding hands and sharing TikTok videos featuring kisses. While their off-screen connection seemed evident, the duo preferred to keep their relationship ambiguous during the interview. Grace playfully quipped, “Chemistry? I hardly know her!” when asked about their on-screen rapport, while Thames described their chemistry as effortless and immediate, noting how well they clicked from their first meeting.

Interestingly, apart from their work on “Regretting You,” Thames and Grace’s collaboration continued in another project titled “New Year’s Rev,” where they shared the screen once again. The comedy, produced by Green Day, premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Thames shared a heartwarming detail about celebrating his 18th birthday surrounded by loved ones, including Grace, in Texas. Their bond seemed to have grown stronger as they spent quality time together off set.
As the release date of “Regretting You” approaches on October 24th, fans can anticipate witnessing the on-screen chemistry between Thames and Grace unfold in this romantic drama. The movie follows Grace’s character, Clara, as she navigates grief while bonding with Thames’ character, Miller. With an ensemble cast that includes Allison Williams and Dave Franco, the film promises to deliver an emotional and heartfelt story that showcases the talents of the young leads.
The pair’s genuine connection and dynamic performances add depth to their portrayal of Clara and Miller, creating a compelling on-screen relationship that resonates with audiences. Despite their improvisational kisses not all making it into the final cut, Thames and Grace’s natural rapport shines through in their scenes, enhancing the authenticity of their characters’ blossoming romance. “Regretting You” offers a poignant exploration of love, loss, and the healing power of human connection, anchored by the captivating performances of its talented cast.
