In a recent episode of the ‘Pod Meets World’ podcast, Rider Strong, known for his role in ‘Boy Meets World’, shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes story from the set of his 1998 movie ‘My Giant’. Co-hosting the podcast with Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle, Strong delved into an incident involving a vat of fake vomit that led to some unexpected confusion and laughter amongst the cast and crew.

The mishap occurred during filming in Prague for ‘My Giant’, a movie starring Billy Crystal and inspired by his friendship with André the Giant. Strong recalled a scene where his character gets puked on by a giant played by Gheorghe Mureșan. To make the fake vomit look realistic, the production team concocted a mixture of potatoes, carrots, and food dye, creating a giant vat of the substance, which was to be poured over Strong.
Describing the scene as a classic moment where the kid actor gets covered in stuff, Strong shared that the vat of fake vomit was left on set, as around 100 background actors believed it was lunch. The misunderstanding led to a humorous situation where the extras mistook the fake vomit for a catered meal, bringing bowls and spoons to dig in before being stopped by the crew.
Fishel chimed in, jokingly referring to the incident as ‘production vomit’, highlighting the quirky and unexpected moments that can occur behind the scenes of a film. Friedle joined the banter, humorously suggesting that the actors were feasting on ‘catered vomit’, adding to the light-hearted recount of the amusing mix-up on set.
Beyond the comedic anecdote shared by Strong, the ‘Boy Meets World’ cast also made headlines recently for a touching moment on Dancing with the Stars. During the show’s Dedication Night episode, Fishel paid tribute to William Daniels, who portrayed Mr. Feeny on the popular series. Performing a jive to the Boy Meets World theme song, Fishel and her partner delivered a heartfelt dance that honoured Daniels’ iconic character.
The emotional performance was elevated when Daniels made a surprise appearance onstage, in character as Mr. Feeny, garnering a heartwarming reaction from the audience and fans of the beloved series. Fishel expressed her gratitude towards Daniels in an Instagram post, acknowledging his influence and impact on generations of viewers who have cherished his work over the years.
As the podcast episode and Dancing with the Stars tribute showcased, Rider Strong and his ‘Boy Meets World’ co-stars continue to share memorable moments and create lasting connections with their audience, both on and off the screen. The amusing anecdote of mistaken fake vomit for lunch on the movie set adds a light-hearted touch to the behind-the-scenes stories that make the entertainment industry truly fascinating and entertaining.
