Harrison Ford, 82, Says Physical ‘Demands’ of Horseback Riding in “1923” Aren’t as ‘Daunting as They Look’ (Exclusive)

Harrison Ford Talks About Physical Demands of Horseback Riding on Set

Veteran actor Harrison Ford, known for his iconic roles in Hollywood, has recently opened up about the physical challenges of horseback riding in the TV series “1923.” The 82-year-old star, who portrays the character Jacob Dutton, the head of a Montana ranch, shares insights into his experiences on the set of the show in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine.

In the popular western drama, Ford’s character is seen engaging in various outdoor activities, including horseback riding and gun-slinging, as he fights to protect his family’s property. Despite the rugged nature of the scenes, Ford downplays the difficulty, stating, “I think the demands are not really as daunting as they look.”

Contrary to Ford’s modesty, his co-star Helen Mirren, who plays his on-screen wife Cara Dutton, praises his horse-riding skills, calling him a “fantastic rider.” She expresses her admiration for Ford’s abilities, especially when galloping across the picturesque Montana landscape during filming.

Ford, however, deflects the compliments and credits his success to his trusted horse, highlighting the importance of having a reliable animal partner for such demanding scenes. Mirren playfully nudges Ford about the standard response of great riders praising their horses, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between rider and steed.

While Ford may downplay the physical challenges of horseback riding, he acknowledges the unique setting of the show, set in early 20th century Montana, as posing its own intensity. The rugged terrain and harsh climate add an extra layer of authenticity to the series, creating a compelling backdrop for the characters’ struggles.

As “1923” returns for its highly anticipated second season, viewers can expect even more gripping storylines and intense drama. The narrative follows Jacob and Cara Dutton as they navigate a brutal winter and face adversaries intent on seizing their land. The stakes are higher, and the tension is palpable as the characters’ fates hang in the balance.

Actor Brandon Sklenar, who plays the couple’s nephew Spencer, shares insights into working with Ford and Mirren, praising their humility and kindness on set. He attributes their enduring success to their genuine personalities, which shine through in their performances and resonate with audiences worldwide.

With the new season promising to deliver thrills and emotional depth, fans of the show are eagerly anticipating the premiere date. The cast’s camaraderie and dedication to their craft bode well for another unforgettable chapter in the saga of the Dutton family and their struggles in the untamed wilds of Montana.

As Harrison Ford continues to impress audiences with his on-screen presence and off-screen humility, his dedication to his craft and his love for horseback riding shine through in his portrayal of Jacob Dutton. With each galloping stride, Ford brings authenticity and depth to his character, captivating viewers and reminding us of the timeless allure of the Old West.
