Cynthia Erivo has been announced as the host for the 2025 Tony Awards, set to take place on Sunday, June 8 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The American Theatre Wing and the Broadway League made the exciting revelation on February 19. Erivo, a renowned actress known for her role in ‘Wicked’, expressed her pride and excitement in a statement, saying, “I am so proud and excited to take on this glorious honor.” She added, “I hope I can rise to the occasion and usher the theater community through a night that celebrates the wonderful performances we have witnessed throughout the year.”

Heather Hitchens, president and CEO of the American Theater Wing, and Jason Laks, president of the Broadway League, commended Erivo’s contributions to the world of musical theatre. They stated, “Through performances on both stage and screen, Cynthia has extended the magic of musical theatre to millions of new fans around the globe — and that is exactly the mission of the Tony Awards.”
Erivo, a recipient of Tony, Grammy, and Emmy awards, is currently nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars for her role in ‘Wicked’ alongside Ariana Grande. In addition to her upcoming hosting duties at the Tony Awards, Erivo is set to take on the role of Jesus in the Hollywood Bowl’s production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ in August. She has also been cast in the highly anticipated film adaptation of ‘Children of Blood and Bone’.
The star-studded event will be broadcast live on Sunday, June 8 from 8 to 11 p.m. EST on the CBS Television Network, with streaming available on Paramount+ in the U.S. Fans can anticipate the announcement of this year’s Tony nominations on Thursday, May 1.
Erivo’s hosting gig comes after Ariana DeBose’s three-year run as the host of the Tony Awards. DeBose, who hosted the ceremony in the previous years, expressed her desire to return to the stage in a larger capacity, stating, “I am really craving being back on stage in a larger way than simply hosting the Tonys.”
Erivo’s appointment as the host of the 2025 Tony Awards has generated significant buzz within the theatre community, with fans eagerly anticipating her presence on Broadway’s biggest night. As preparations for the event continue, audiences can expect a night filled with joy, inspiration, and appreciation for the theatrical artform.
