According to Williams, despite appearing relatively unharmed after the incident, CJ suddenly declined in health. Just after the swing set collapsed, CJ was conversing, requesting food and water, and seemed responsive. However, his condition swiftly deteriorated, and he stopped responding.
The father, who was away on a business trip at the time, hurried home upon learning of the tragic turn of events. He expressed profound grief, stating, “It’s pain that’ll never go away. Because of his age … it’s just something that’ll never leave.” A GoFundMe fundraiser initiated by Williams to cover the boy’s funeral expenses has garnered over $4,000 in contributions as of Friday, September 26.
The SLCPD has labelled CJ’s death as accidental, and his family is currently awaiting the results of his autopsy. This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of life and the fragility of loved ones.
