A Utah mother of three, Jennifer Gledhill, has pleaded not guilty to charges of fatally shooting her husband, Matthew Johnson, in his sleep. Gledhill, 42, appeared at the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City and waived her right to a preliminary hearing, denying the nine felony charges against her, including first-degree murder. The case dates back to October 2024 when Gledhill was charged in connection to her husband’s disappearance and death.

Reports indicate that Johnson, a member of the Utah National Guard, was reported missing by Gledhill on September 28, 2024. It was later revealed that an informant, who claimed to have had an affair with Gledhill, disclosed details suggesting she had confessed to the killing. Allegedly, Gledhill shot Johnson while he slept in their bed after he confronted her about the affair.

According to prosecutors, Gledhill placed Johnson’s body in a “rooftop storage container” and then transported it in their minivan to bury him in a shallow grave. Despite extensive search efforts, Johnson’s body is yet to be located. Gledhill allegedly informed the informant that Johnson was buried north of their Cottonwood Heights home.
Following Gledhill’s arrest, her parents, Thomas Gledhill and Rosalie Gledhill, were also arrested for allegedly aiding their daughter in covering up the crime. Both parents were booked on multiple felony counts of obstruction of justice. However, they have not been formally charged at this time. Authorities conducted a thorough search near the Utah-Idaho border in hopes of finding Johnson’s body but faced challenges due to the lack of specific information.
Family and friends of Johnson are focusing on caring for his three children and are hopeful for closure by locating Johnson’s body. The victim’s representative shared a statement expressing gratitude for the support received from the community and the efforts of the military unit. Gledhill’s next hearing is scheduled for February 28, where further proceedings will take place.
The case has garnered significant attention for its complex dynamics involving family betrayal and alleged deception. The legal proceedings will continue to unfold as more details emerge, shedding light on the tragic events surrounding Johnson’s untimely death. The search for justice and closure remains a priority for all involved parties, hoping to lay Johnson to rest properly and seek accountability for the alleged crimes committed.
