A Connecticut woman sustained serious injuries when her downstairs neighbor accidentally discharged a gun, shooting through the ceiling above. The incident occurred in the town of Groton, where dispatchers received multiple 911 calls around 10:50 p.m. local time on Sunday, September 14th. One of the calls came from 30-year-old Caleb Bean, who explained that he had unintentionally fired his firearm while handling it, causing a bullet to strike a woman in the apartment directly above his own. Upon authorities’ arrival, it was confirmed that the woman had been shot in the leg.

Police disclosed that Bean informed a witness, “I’m the one who did this. What can I do to help?” The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, experienced significant blood loss as neighbours and her boyfriend made efforts to provide immediate aid by improvising a tourniquet. Law enforcement personnel used tourniquets to control the bleeding before the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, including life-saving surgery. She is presently in intensive care, battling her severe injuries.
An arrest warrant obtained by WFSB detailed Bean’s charges, which included two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and second-degree breach of peace. Authorities found an AR-15-style rifle at the scene, leading to the prompt arrest of Bean. Initially held on a $250,000 bond, a judge later adjusted it to $15,000 as documented in court records.
