Human remains that are suspected to be those of Travis Decker, the man accused by authorities of murdering his three young daughters, have been discovered in Washington, according to a statement from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. The bodies of Paityn Decker, 9, Evelyn Decker, 8, and Olivia Decker, 5, were found at a remote campsite in Chelan County, Washington, on June 2.

Travis Decker, the father of the three girls, failed to return them to their mother, Whitney Decker, in Wenatchee, Washington, after a court-ordered visit on May 30. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office stated on Thursday that the remains believed to be Travis Decker’s were located in the Icicle River drainage. Sheriff Mike Morrison informed NCW Life that they are awaiting further confirmation but noted that the discovery aligns with the clothing that Travis was last seen wearing.
Decker, who is 32 years old, has been on the run since his daughters were reported missing in May and later found deceased. Following the tragic incident, a $20,000 reward was offered by the U.S Marshals Service for any information that could lead to his apprehension. The bodies of his daughters were found with plastic bags over their heads at the Rock Island Campground in Chelan County on June 2. According to reports, a medical examiner concluded that the cause of death was asphyxiation.
The abandoned pickup truck of Travis Decker was recovered near the campsite with apparent bloody handprints, and DNA evidence found on the truck and plastic bags matched Decker’s DNA profile. Decker has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of kidnapping. Authorities have stated that he is the sole suspect connected to the homicides.
Law enforcement agencies have conducted an extensive search for Decker, considering the possibility that he may have fled to Canada due to online searches related to relocating to Canada. Several potential sightings of Decker were reported, including one on June 10 in Washington State and another on July 5 in Idaho, but none of these sightings were officially confirmed.
Despite earlier reports of remains being found near the Rock Island Campground, the FBI’s Seattle Division clarified on September 3 that the discovered remains did not belong to the missing father. Whitney Decker, the mother of the three girls, had previously raised concerns about Travis Decker’s parental responsibilities in court filings.
At a memorial service for her daughters, Whitney expressed her gratitude for the time she spent with them and highlighted their impact on her life. Whitney emphasised the warmth and kindness of her daughters’ hearts, reflecting on how they had supported her through difficult times.
Travis Decker’s case has shocked the community and raised questions about the tragic events leading to the loss of three young lives. The ongoing investigation aims to provide answers and justice for the victims and their grieving family members. The detailed search efforts and developments in the case demonstrate the dedication of law enforcement in pursuing justice for the victims and their loved ones.
