In a recent episode of the ‘Two T’s in a Pod’ podcast, Teddi Mellencamp, former star of ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’, revealed how a recent COVID diagnosis exacerbated her ongoing battle with stage 4 cancer, triggering feelings of extreme depression. The 44-year-old shared that she felt hopeless and found herself crying every day as she navigated the challenging dual health issues.

During the podcast, Mellencamp confided in her co-host Erika Jayne about the emotional turmoil she experienced following her COVID diagnosis, saying, “I got COVID, which, I’m good now. Then I started feeling extreme, extreme depression.” Jayne, understanding the gravity of the situation, encouraged Mellencamp to lean on her for support, offering to be there for her 24/7.
Mellencamp further revealed that she reached out to her psychiatrist for help, who made changes to her medications and advised her to focus on staying positive and reflecting on the positive aspects of her life. Despite the professional guidance, Mellencamp expressed how she struggled with asking for help, a sentiment many individuals facing challenging times can relate to.
The reality TV star’s health journey began with a diagnosis of stage 2 melanoma in 2022, leading to a series of surgeries to treat the aggressive skin cancer. In April, Mellencamp shared the heartbreaking news that her cancer had progressed to stage 4 and had spread to her brain and lungs, requiring intensive treatments such as immunotherapy, radiation, and surgery.
Erika Jayne, who has been open about her own mental health battles, empathetically advised Mellencamp to be gentle with herself during this difficult period. She underscored the importance of leaning on loved ones for support and reassured her co-host that she was not alone in her struggles.
The conversation between Mellencamp and Jayne shed light on the often overlooked mental health toll that serious illnesses can take on individuals. Mellencamp candidly discussed her feelings of hopelessness and the challenges she faced in processing the gravity of her health conditions, highlighting the importance of seeking and accepting help during such trying times.
As the podcast episode unfolded, Mellencamp and Jayne delved into the complexities of dealing with intrusive thoughts and the slow journey towards mental health recovery. Mellencamp shared her struggles with feeling paralysed and overwhelmed, emphasising the debilitating effects of both her physical ailments and the psychological impact of the illnesses on her well-being.
In a hopeful turn of events, Mellencamp mentioned that her new medication had begun to take effect, providing her with some relief from the overwhelming emotions she had been experiencing. She expressed gratitude for the support she had received and the positive steps she was taking towards regaining a sense of normalcy in her life.
The raw and honest conversation between Mellencamp and Jayne serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of destigmatising mental health struggles and reaching out for help during challenging times. By sharing her vulnerabilities and journey towards healing, Mellencamp is not only advocating for herself but also inspiring others to prioritise their mental well-being in the face of adversity.
