Price Waldman, a cast member of the Broadway production of ‘Cabaret,’ recently shared the harrowing experience of fainting mid-performance at the Kit Kat Club. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Waldman opened up about the health scare that occurred while he was playing the role of Herr Schultz on September 12. The incident left Waldman momentarily incapacitated on stage, but thanks to the quick actions of his fellow cast members and crew, he was able to recover safely.
Reflecting on the incident, Waldman expressed gratitude towards his colleagues for their swift response in helping him when he fainted onstage. He recounted how his costars literally caught him, preventing any serious injury from the fall. Waldman emphasised the importance of their support in such a vulnerable moment, highlighting the camaraderie within the theatre community.
During the performance, Waldman experienced a sudden onset of a stomach issue that led to dehydration, resulting in him fainting on stage. His fellow cast members, Calvin Leon Smith and Ellen Harvey, acted promptly to assist him, along with the stage manager, Derek Michael DiGregorio. Their collective efforts ensured Waldman was safely escorted off stage and received the necessary medical attention.
Following the incident, Waldman was taken to Mount Sinai West in New York City for treatment, where he received IV fluids and underwent tests confirming dehydration as the cause of his health scare. Despite the frightening experience, Waldman commended the hospital staff and his colleagues for their prompt and professional response, which helped him recover quickly.
After a brief period of recovery, Waldman made a triumphant return to the stage just two days later for the matinee performance on September 14. He expressed gratitude for being able to resume his role and complete his performances, reflecting on the support he received from the theatre personnel and his own resilience in overcoming the setback.
