Ohio Man Receives Life Sentence for Killing Ex-Girlfriend and Her Son

An Ohio man, Desean Brown, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to the murders of Nyteisha Lattimore, 29, and her 3-year-old son, Nylo. The tragic incident occurred on December 5, 2020, when Brown fatally stabbed Lattimore in her apartment in Cincinnati before throwing Nylo off a bridge with his stroller. The young boy’s body was never recovered.
Brown, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated murder in a plea agreement that spared Lattimore’s family from enduring years of painful appeals. The plea deal also took the death penalty off the table. The sentencing took place almost five years after the heinous crime was committed, as reported by The Cincinnati Enquirer and a news release from Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich.
According to records, Brown had previously been in a relationship with Lattimore and was staying in her apartment at the time of the killings. After stabbing Lattimore 11 times in the neck, he callously took Nylo in a stroller to the Purple People Bridge overlooking the Ohio River. Subsequently, he threw the innocent child and the stroller into the cold waters below.
In a chilling turn of events, Brown attempted to dispose of Lattimore’s body by placing it in a bag and taking an Uber to the bridge to dump it into the river. However, the bag became stuck on a ledge and was discovered the following day. Despite extensive search efforts, Nylo’s remains were never found. The discovery of the boy’s stroller in the river added to the tragedy and horror of the crime.
Leading up to the murders, Brown had exhibited alarming behaviour, such as searching for ways to clean up blood and attempting to cover his tracks at the crime scene. Reports indicate that he blamed Lattimore for a miscarriage, which could have been a potential motive for the brutal killings.
During the recent court hearing, prosecutors did not delve into the motive behind the murders. However, a woman had come forward in 2023, stating that Brown had expressed resentment towards Lattimore for the miscarriage and had spoken about seeking revenge by harming her and Nylo.
The plea agreement was finalised after Brown was deemed competent to stand trial, following attempts to feign mental illness. The decision to forego a trial and accept a life sentence was described as delivering justice for Nyteisha and Nylo by Prosecutor Pillich, who condemned Brown’s actions as ruthless and unforgivable.
As the community grapples with the shock and horror of these senseless deaths, the memory of Nyteisha Lattimore and Nylo serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence and the importance of early intervention and support for victims in abusive relationships.
