Alaska Man, 28, Found Guilty After Repeatedly Molesting Minor Seated Next to Him on Plane

A 28-year-old man from Alaska has been found guilty of repeatedly molesting a minor seated next to him on a plane, which has led to a conviction for abusive sexual contact. The man, Trayton Ballot of Deering, Alaska, committed the heinous act while on an Alaska Airlines flight from Anchorage to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on January 15, 2025. The federal jury deliberated for just an hour before reaching a verdict on the case.

Following a two-day trial in Seattle, Trayton Ballot was convicted of engaging in abusive sexual contact with a 17-year-old girl who was traveling with her mother and a friend on the same flight. Court documents revealed that Ballot and the teenage victim were seated in the same row, with the victim by the window and Ballot in the middle seat. About an hour into the flight, Ballot allegedly touched the victim’s upper and inner thigh inappropriately, despite her attempts to push his hand away.

The victim continuously tried to fend off Ballot’s advances, even resorting to using a pillow to create a barrier between them. She eventually confided in her mother and friend about the disturbing incident, prompting her mother to alert a flight attendant. Ballot, aware of the impending consequences, feigned sleep and obstructed the victim’s attempt to leave her seat to seek help. However, the flight attendant intervened, moving the teenager to a different seat and notifying the authorities waiting at the airport upon landing.

Ballot was convicted of abusive sexual contact, and could face up to two years in federal prison when he appears for sentencing before U.S. District Judge John H. Chun on December 15, 2025. There was a possibility of a lesser charge of simple assault, which the jury did not opt for. Despite the severity of the crime, Ballot’s federal public defender declined to provide any comments on the matter.
