A young dog named Rolo Junior has been given a “second chance” at life, thanks to the collaborative efforts of two Texas animal shelters. The 2-year-old mixed-breed dog was in critical condition when he arrived at the Austin Animal Center on Jan. 28. Described as “so emaciated and weak that he couldn’t even lift his head,” Rolo was immediately hospitalized at an emergency clinic. His diagnosis revealed multiple health issues including emaciation, anemia, scrotal dermatitis, a heart murmur, hookworm, and ataxia, requiring a blood transfusion for treatment.

With the necessary care going beyond what the city shelter could offer, the Austin Animal Center reached out to Austin Pets Alive for assistance. Rolo was taken in by the rescue organization on Feb. 3, marking the beginning of his journey towards recovery. Austin Pets Alive stated that Rolo has since been receiving intensive care to help him regain strength. Despite facing daily medical costs estimated at $250, the resilient dog’s spirit remains unbreakable.
The organization emphasised that Rolo, though still having a long road ahead, approaches each day with a zest for life. He craves affection and attention, eagerly leaning in for snuggles and kisses whenever possible. Currently under the care of a foster family awaiting adoption, Rolo continues to make progress in his health and well-being. Described as excelling in crate training and outdoor restroom use, the canine is said to be affectionate towards humans, making him an ideal companion for a loving family.
