Mom Throws Unique McDonald’s-Themed 1st Birthday Party for Son

Alison Havens and her husband Austin recently celebrated a special milestone as they welcomed their third child, John “Mac” Havens, on July 17, 2024. Describing Mac as their “99th percentile baby” due to his impressive size at birth and continued growth, Alison shared with PEOPLE her excitement for planning a unique first birthday celebration for their son.
The idea for a McDonald’s-themed party came to Alison while passing through a drive-through with her newborn son shortly after his birth. “It kind of made me laugh because it was the first time I looked at the McDonald’s [menu] and I was, ‘Oh Big Mac,’ because that’s what we started calling him,” she explains.
With Mac’s nickname in mind, Alison decided to base the entire first birthday party around the popular fast-food chain. She incorporated details such as small floral arrangements in fry boxes and a beautifully painted banner celebrating her little boy.
Despite a hectic summer schedule, including a move and a vacation, Alison managed to put together a memorable celebration for Mac. She shared, “I did crafts the week before. I used my Cricut to make the little aprons, the hats and then the name tags for all the older kids to play in the little pretend play area as McDonald workers.”
The party, which also served as a housewarming gathering, attracted over 50 loved ones. The guests enjoyed a catered McDonald’s menu, with the added excitement of the Snack Wrap returning just in time for the celebration. Alison ensured that the party favours aligned with the theme, providing Happy Meal toys to the young attendees.
