The family of Angie Stone, the beloved singer who tragically lost her life in a car accident earlier this year, has just made shocking claims in a new lawsuit. The lawsuit, filed in Atlanta’s Gwinnett County, names Daimler Truck North America, the company that owned the tractor-trailer involved in the crash, and the driver, Jared Wilkinson, as defendants.

According to court documents obtained by WSB-TV, the lawsuit alleges that Stone was still alive after the van she was travelling in overturned, but ultimately succumbed to fatal injuries when a tractor-trailer collided with the vehicle. The incident occurred on Interstate 65 following a performance in Mobile, Ala., where the van’s driver reportedly lost control, causing it to flip over.

The lawsuit further asserts that Stone was conscious and actively trying to escape from underneath the van with the assistance of Good Samaritans. Tragically, before everyone could be safely rescued, the tractor-trailer crashed into the overturned van, resulting in Stone being ejected and pinned under the vehicle.
The court documents claim that the driver of the tractor-trailer, who was carrying a load of sugar at the time, failed to pay attention to the road ahead and did not react in time to prevent the collision. The collision mitigation system, Detroit Assurance 5.0, developed by Daimler Truck North America and installed in the tractor-trailer, allegedly malfunctioned, failing to alert the driver about the impending crash.
As a consequence, the driver did not apply the brakes, resulting in the devastating impact that caused Stone’s fatal injuries. The lawsuit describes the collision as “extremely severe,” with Stone trapped beneath the van until she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Following Stone’s untimely passing, her family is seeking justice through a trial by jury, with demands for the trucking company to cover hospital bills, funeral expenses, attorney fees, and additional damages as permitted by law. Daimler Truck North America has issued a statement expressing condolences to the victims and their families, refraining from further comment on the pending litigation.
Angie Stone, known for hits like “I Wanna Thank You,” passed away on March 1, as confirmed by her representative. Her daughter, Ladi Diamond, also shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, leading to an outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers during the challenging time.
The tragic circumstances surrounding Stone’s death have left a deep impact on her family and fans alike. The legal proceedings initiated by her family shed light on the events leading to her passing, seeking accountability and closure in the face of such a grievous loss.
