After Years of Entertainment, Disney World’s DINOSAUR ride, along with the entire DinoLand U.S.A. area, is set to shut down permanently on February 2, 2026. The final opportunity for fans to experience prehistoric adventures on this thrilling ride will be on February 1. The decision to close these attractions was announced by Disney World officials at D23, Disney’s official fan event, the year prior.

The closure is paving the way for a new section in the park named Pueblo Esperanza, which will be themed around Tropical Americas and is expected to debut in 2027. Construction work is already underway in DinoLand U.S.A., with parts of the area already inaccessible to visitors, including attractions like TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and The Boneyard.
Originally known as Countdown to Extinction when Animal Kingdom first opened in 1998, the DINOSAUR ride underwent a name change to its current one in 2000. This iconic ride has been a staple of the park for many years, offering guests a thrilling time-traveling adventure through a prehistoric landscape.
Disney’s Tropical Americas section, where Pueblo Esperanza will be located, is promised to transport visitors to the rich, biodiverse regions near the equator in the Western Hemisphere. The area will boast a village centred around a fountain, where villagers gather to share tales, as well as a stunning carousel featuring beloved animals from Disney stories.
Within Tropical Americas, two signature attractions are planned—a unique Indiana Jones ride that promises a different experience from any other Indiana Jones attraction worldwide, and an immersive journey through the magical Madrigal house from the animated film Encanto, showcasing Antonio’s exploration of a rainforest within his room.
While an official opening date for Pueblo Esperanza has yet to be announced, Disney has confirmed that the new land will welcome visitors in 2027. The park’s commitment to continually evolving and introducing new and exciting experiences ensures that Disney World remains a top destination for fans of all ages seeking magical adventures.
The announcement of the closure of the DINOSAUR ride and DinoLand U.S.A. serves as a bittersweet reminder of changing times at Disney World, where beloved attractions give way to new adventures and experiences. As visitors bid farewell to this classic ride, anticipation builds for the unveiling of Pueblo Esperanza and the wonders that await within Tropical Americas.
Disney’s ongoing commitment to innovation and storytelling ensures that the magic of Disney World continues to capture the hearts and imaginations of guests worldwide. As one chapter closes with the DINOSAUR ride, another exciting chapter awaits with the opening of Pueblo Esperanza, promising unforgettable experiences and memories for years to come.
The transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. into Pueblo Esperanza underscores Disney’s dedication to creating immersive and captivating experiences that transport visitors to new worlds and ignite their sense of wonder and adventure. The future of Disney’s Animal Kingdom promises to be filled with excitement and enchantment, inviting guests to embark on unforgettable journeys and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
