According to the General Commissariat of National Police, Hopkins was found lifeless in a park near Koh Pich City Hall in Phnom Penh. She was found lying in the grass, her sandals beside her body, with a bloodied knife nearby. The police swiftly identified a suspect in the case – Kidikila Nganda Glodie, a 33-year-old individual from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Reports suggest Glodie was Hopkins’ roommate and allegedly harboured resentment towards Hopkins due to a love affair.
The untimely demise of the British woman occurred after a dispute that police have termed as a “love triangle.” Hopkins was discovered deceased in a park located in the Chamkar Mon district of Phnom Penh shortly before midnight on Friday, August 29. Following an investigation, Glodie was located by the police at a nearby salon on Saturday, August 30. She was subsequently arrested in connection with Hopkins’ tragic death.
Police reports indicate that the suspect allegedly attacked Hopkins with a knife, resulting in fatal injuries. The two women cohabited as roommates in a rented residence in the Chroy Changvar district. According to Captain Em Vichetr, a Deputy Chief at the Criminal Investigation Office, the tragic incident unfolded in Koh Pich, where an argument escalated, culminating in the heinous act that claimed Hopkins’ life.
With a confession from the suspect during interrogation, the police have divulged that the motive behind the attack was allegedly linked to a romantic involvement. Brigadier General Bun Satya, a Deputy Chief at the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, mentioned that the suspect admitted to committing the crime due to feelings of anger towards Hopkins for her alleged relationship with Glodie’s boyfriend from the Congo.
