At the recent Destination D23 fan event held at the Florida resort on August 31, Imagineers unveiled exciting plans for the iconic landmark. The event, titled “Beyond the Spires: An Insider Look at Disney Castles,” brought to light the history of Cinderella Castle’s various decorations and colour schemes over the years.
During the event, park leaders made a significant announcement – a new colour palette is in store for Cinderella Castle. The updated paint will bring forth shades of grays, creams, blues, and touches of gold with the aim of enhancing the castle’s architectural beauty. The changes are inspired by the castle’s classic and original look, bringing a nostalgic touch to the beloved Disney World landmark.
The current features of Cinderella Castle include pale gray walls at the base, transitioning into a light pink hue higher up on the structure. The roofs sport a vibrant blue, while the topmost turret shines in gold. This timeless colour combination of blues and golds is intended to capture the essence of the Florida sunshine, ensuring the castle remains picture-perfect throughout the seasons.
To maintain the integrity of the castle’s look, Disney utilises paint that undergoes rigorous UV and weather testing to simulate years of exposure to the sun. For hard-to-reach areas like the roofs, the company employs durable, long-lasting paint typically used for cars. Special finishing touches such as a sheen material are applied to create a lifelike appearance, particularly on stones, rooftops, and gold accents.
Disney asserts that although their castles draw inspiration from traditional designs, they are built for longevity using materials like concrete, steel, cement, plaster, and fiberglass instead of stone.
