McDonald’s is set to make dining out more affordable for its customers in the United States. The fast-food giant has announced a significant reduction in the prices of its combo meals across all its franchises in the country, aiming to provide better value to its patrons. The new pricing structure is expected to be implemented from September and will remain in effect until the beginning of next year.

The initiative will see the prices of eight popular combo meals slashed by 15%, making them more budget-friendly compared to purchasing each item separately. This move comes as part of McDonald’s strategy to enhance its perceived value among consumers, as highlighted by the company’s CEO Chris Kempczinski during an earnings call earlier this month. Kempczinski acknowledged that the pricing of combo meals above $10 had negatively influenced the customer’s perception of the brand’s value and emphasised the need to address this issue.
Among the combo meals that will see reduced prices are favourites like the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Chicken McNuggets, McCrispy, Egg McMuffin, and various breakfast sandwiches. Additionally, in November, customers can look forward to special discounts on items such as the Sausage, Egg and Cheese McGriddle and 10-piece Chicken McNuggets meals, priced at $5 and $8, respectively, offering further value for money.
Joe Erlinger, the head of McDonald’s U.S. business, explained that the decision to lower prices stemmed from customer feedback, indicating a desire for more affordability and everyday value associated with the McDonald’s brand. To support franchisees through these price reductions, McDonald’s has reportedly agreed to provide financial assistance to help offset the impact on their businesses.
In addition to the revised pricing structure, McDonald’s has been proactive in introducing new menu items and promotions to entice customers back to its establishments. Over the summer, the company launched a variety of offerings, including the return of the popular Snack Wrap and limited-time items like the Spicy McMuffins, which added a spicy twist to its classic breakfast menu.
The fast-food chain also embarked on themed meals collaborations, such as the recent partnership with A Minecraft Movie and the release of the nostalgia-inducing McDonaldland Meal. These initiatives aim to cater to diverse customer preferences and enhance the overall dining experience at McDonald’s restaurants.
As McDonald’s continues to adapt to evolving consumer demands and preferences, the reduction in combo meal prices signals a step towards enhancing affordability and value for its loyal customers. With these strategic changes and ongoing innovations in its menu offerings, McDonald’s aims to remain a top choice for customers seeking quality meals at competitive prices. It remains to be seen how these adjustments will impact customer perceptions and drive footfall to McDonald’s outlets across the United States.
