Alicia Vikander Shares Insights on Family Life with Michael Fassbender

Alicia Vikander, known for her roles in movies like “Tomb Raider” and “The Danish Girl,” has recently given a rare glimpse into her private family life with husband Michael Fassbender. The couple, who are notoriously private about their personal lives, are parents to two sons, whose names remain undisclosed to the public.

In a candid interview with British Vogue, Vikander, 36, opened up about the challenges of balancing motherhood with her successful acting career. She expressed feelings of “mom guilt,” often having to leave home before her children wake up and returning after they have gone to bed. Vikander shared, “With all the parent and mom guilt that you already carry with you constantly, I am battling that a lot, all the time.”
The Swedish actress, who welcomed her first son in 2021 followed by her second in 2024, revealed that she and Fassbender, 48, have started explaining to their older son the dynamics of their work schedules. She explained, “Now with the 4-year-old we talk about it: ‘It’s time for Papa to go back and then I’ll be at home.'”
Despite the challenges, Vikander expressed her love for motherhood, stating that she was initially anxious about becoming a mother but found herself embracing and enjoying the role more after the arrival of her second son. She shared, “I love being a mom. I wasn’t really very maternal until I had my own children. But maybe even more after the second one arrived, I started to feel like, OK, I know this a little bit now. I’m a bit kinder to myself too.”
The Oscar winner also reflected on her journey to parenthood with Fassbender, revealing the pain of experiencing a miscarriage before the birth of their children. Vikander described the miscarriage as “extreme and painful,” highlighting the emotional toll it took on her and Fassbender. She emphasized the challenges of dealing with personal struggles while being in the public eye, noting how difficult it can be for individuals in the spotlight to navigate such experiences.
In discussing their parenting dynamic, Vikander mentioned that she and Fassbender take turns working so that one parent can be present at home with their children. This arrangement allows them to maintain a balanced family life while pursuing their respective careers in the film industry.
In a previous conversation with The Sunday Times, Vikander shared insights into her evolving perspective on life after embracing motherhood.
