A former athletic trainer from the ‘Strength in Christ’ gym in Parker, Colorado has been convicted of sexually assaulting two teenage athletes under his care. Aaron Thomas Carrado, aged 51, was found guilty on six counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as part of a pattern of abuse. These disturbing incidents occurred between 2019 and 2022 while Carrado was coaching at the gym. Prosecutors revealed that the victims, who were 15 and 16 years old at the time, were betrayed by someone they trusted.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Danielle Jaramillo expressed, “The defendant was entrusted to train Olympic-level high school athletes. Instead, he violated and betrayed them. These courageous survivors have shown that no title, no position, and no power can shield predators from justice.” District Attorney George Brauchler added, “After using his position as a personal trainer and his fake claims of Christianity to these trusting victims — all while married with children — this gutless faithless predator fled the state. But he could not outrun justice.”

The case came to light when Carrado’s ex-wife discovered disturbing notes and social media messages, prompting her to report the matter to the authorities. Subsequently, Carrado fled Colorado but was later apprehended in Montana in 2022. The court has scheduled his sentencing for November 13, with a potential sentence ranging from eight years to life in prison. The 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office stated that Carrado might face a lengthy imprisonment term for his heinous actions.
In response to the verdict, the victims and their families have received a sense of justice prevailing. This case underscores the importance of speaking out against abuse and holding perpetrators accountable, regardless of their position or authority. By standing up against such misconduct, survivors exhibit immense courage and resilience, paving the way for a safer environment for all athletes and individuals in vulnerable positions.
This harrowing incident serves as a poignant reminder of the need for vigilance and safeguards within sports and coaching environments to protect young athletes from potential harm. The trust placed in coaches and trainers must not be exploited, and stringent measures should be in place to prevent such abuses from occurring in the future. The community’s response to this case highlights the collective determination to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals, especially minors, in athletic settings.
As the legal proceedings continue, it is crucial to provide support and resources to the survivors and their families as they navigate the aftermath of this traumatic experience. By offering a safe space for individuals to share their stories and seek assistance, the community can foster a culture of transparency and accountability, promoting a zero-tolerance approach towards any form of abuse in sports and beyond. Moving forward, prioritising the protection and empowerment of young athletes must remain a fundamental principle in all sporting institutions.
This case sheds light on the importance of raising awareness about child protection and advocating for the implementation of robust safeguarding protocols within sports organisations. Through education, vigilance, and proactive intervention, we can strive towards creating a safe and inclusive environment where individuals can pursue their athletic aspirations free from the threat of abuse or exploitation. The resilience and bravery displayed by the survivors in seeking justice sends a powerful message that accountability and prevention are paramount in safeguarding the welfare of athletes at all levels.
