A tragic incident has left a family devastated after 76-year-old Nancy Veasy spent her final hours doting on her newborn grandson, only to tragically lose her life in a car crash on her way home. Nancy’s son, Japhet Veasy, shared with PEOPLE that his mother was overjoyed to spend time with her newest grandchild and was completely devoted to him during their visit.
Nancy Veasy, a retired elementary school teacher’s assistant and former machinery mechanic, had been looking forward to returning home to her husband of 56 years after spending the day with her family. Japhet Veasy, who was travelling behind his mother with his own family, received a devastating call from his sister informing him of the accident.
The family’s day took a tragic turn when Nancy’s Apple watch alerted her loved ones that she may have been involved in an accident. Japhet, caught in traffic, rushed to the scene only to discover his beloved mother’s lifeless body in the wreckage. The heartbreaking sight left him shattered, as Nancy was not only his mother but his best friend.
Remembered as a kind and loving soul, Nancy not only raised her own children but also showered her eight grandchildren and three great-grandbabies with love and homemade quilts. Her daughter, Ameera Joe, described Nancy as a beacon of light in their lives, always ready to help others and spreading joy wherever she went.
Before the fatal crash on July 25, Nancy had visited her grandson, Jaxon, in Douglasville, where she spent the entire day cradling him in her arms. Despite offering to drive with the newborn, Nancy’s son and his wife decided it would be safer for them to transport the baby, a decision that would sadly prove to be crucial.
According to reports, the other driver involved in the crash was allegedly driving recklessly, causing multiple collisions that claimed Nancy’s life and the life of another individual. Although warrants have been issued in relation to the incident, no arrests have been made, leaving the family grappling with a complicated mix of grief and anger.
