Former talk show host Wendy Williams recently shared details about her life in an assisted living facility, revealing that she feels isolated and restricted. Williams, aged 60, disclosed her experiences in the TubiTV documentary titled TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy Williams, where she discussed residing in a facility after her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, took over managing her finances and health in 2022.
Speaking to TMZ over the phone, Williams expressed her feelings of isolation in the facility, describing it as a place where predominantly older individuals reside, some in their 90s and 80s. She referred to the facility as a “memory unit,” implying that it caters to individuals with memory-related issues. Williams expressed her frustration about her living situation, highlighting the challenges she faces.

Morrissey, Williams’ guardian, has previously stated that the former TV host has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and primary progressive aphasia (PPA). Additionally, a legal declaration has deemed Williams as “legally incapacitated.” In response to Williams’ denial of these medical conditions, Morrissey requested a comprehensive medical evaluation by a specialist to reconfirm her health status.
Williams described her time in the facility as suffocating, noting that she often opts to have meals in her room due to the depressing atmosphere among other residents. She lamented the lack of access to technology, revealing that she has been requesting an iPad for years without success, and is limited to using a phone provided by her guardian.
When questioned about her outdoor activities, Williams disclosed that she had only been allowed outside twice in the past 30 days, on both occasions for dental appointments. She highlighted the cumbersome process of accessing the building’s lobby and outdoors, indicating the strict controls imposed on her movements within the facility.
Furthermore, Williams expressed her desire to reclaim her freedom and lead a more normal life, criticising the restrictions imposed by her guardian. Despite her attempts to communicate with friends and family, she claimed to face obstacles in doing so. Williams’ revelations have sparked concerns about her well-being and the management of her guardianship.
The allegations brought forth by Williams shed light on the challenges faced by individuals under court-appointed guardianships, raising questions about autonomy, consent, and quality of life in such arrangements. The impact of restrictive living conditions on individuals’ mental and emotional well-being underscores the need for transparency and accountability in guardianship practices.
As the story unfolds, the public awaits responses from relevant parties, including Williams’ guardian and healthcare providers, to address the concerns raised by Williams. The case serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding guardianships and the importance of safeguarding individuals’ rights and dignity in such arrangements.
