Friendly’s Ice Cream has issued a recall for a batch of their Cookies & Cream ice cream that was incorrectly packaged as Friendly’s Vanilla Bean ice cream, posing a potential risk to consumers with soy and wheat allergies. The affected products, totaling 324 cartons of 48 fl. oz. ice cream, were distributed to stores in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
The mislabeled packaging does not list soy and wheat as ingredients, thus failing to provide crucial allergen information for those who may have severe reactions. Individuals with soy and wheat allergies are at risk of experiencing a “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” if they consume the mislabeled product.

The recall was initiated by DFA Dairy Brands, LLC, with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alerting consumers about the discrepancy in labeling. The Friendly’s Cookies & Cream ice cream was packaged in a carton labeled as Friendly’s Vanilla Bean ice cream but featured a lid indicating it was Cookies & Cream flavor. This oversight could have serious health implications for those with allergies.

The affected ice cream products in question have a best-by date of Nov. 26, 2025. While there have been no reported cases of illness related to this recall as of the FDA’s announcement, the potential threat to allergic individuals prompted the swift action by the manufacturer and regulatory authorities.
In a separate incident, the FDA also issued a recall for Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies due to potential contamination with “foreign material (wood).” This Class II recall affected 12,000 packages of cookies distributed to Target stores across multiple states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, and others.
The safety of consumers remains a top priority in both cases, with the regulatory bodies urging vigilance and caution when consuming the recalled products. Any individuals who may have purchased the affected items are advised to return them to the point of purchase or dispose of them to mitigate any potential health risks.
Food recalls serve as crucial reminders of the importance of accurate labeling and stringent quality control measures in the food industry. The swift response to these incidents highlights the commitment of manufacturers and regulatory agencies to ensuring the safety and well-being of consumers.
As consumers, it is essential to stay informed about product recalls and take prompt action if you have purchased any recalled items. By remaining vigilant and proactive, we can help prevent health hazards and protect ourselves and our loved ones from potential risks associated with mislabeled or contaminated products.
