The warning highlighted that strong west or northwesterly winds, with gusts ranging from 50 to 90 mph, were expected to hit Scotland during the storm. This extreme weather condition prompted the closure of Balmoral Castle, which has served as the royal family’s summer retreat since the era of Queen Victoria. King Charles, following the tradition set by his mother Queen Elizabeth, usually spends part of the late summer in Scotland.
