Four elderly family members, identified as the Divan family, set out on a road trip from New York to a spiritual community in rural West Virginia. But when they failed to arrive at their destination, a search was launched, only to find them dead just five miles away from where they were supposed to be. Kishore Divan, Asha Divan, Shailesh Divan, and Gita Divan were discovered off a steep embankment in Marshall County, West Virginia, following a vehicle crash, according to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). This tragic discovery was made on the evening of Saturday, August 2nd, after the family was expected to reach New Vrindaban on July 29th.
New Vrindaban, the spiritual community where the Divan family was headed, expressed their deep sorrow over the incident. The community confirmed that the family, ranging in ages from 84 to 89, was scheduled to arrive at the Palace Lodge in New Vrindaban but never showed up. The community’s surveillance footage and cameras corroborated that the family did not make it to the property as planned. The family had also intended to visit Pittsburgh along the way and were last seen in Erie, Pennsylvania, at a Burger King on the day they went missing.

Reports indicate that the last known sighting of the family was at a Burger King in Erie, with security footage and credit card transactions confirming their stop there. Subsequently, the family’s vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Camry, was traced southbound on I-79 from Pennsylvania into West Virginia. Despite their close proximity to their intended destination, the family met a tragic fate just five miles away from New Vrindaban. The difficult terrain in the area may have posed challenges for the family, as the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Following the discovery of the bodies, New Vrindaban temple president Jaya Krsna Das collaborated with authorities and the Divans’ extended family to unravel the circumstances leading to the tragic accident. While the MCSO did not disclose the exact cause of the crash, they confirmed that first responders were present at the scene for an extensive period. As the investigation continues, more information is expected to shed light on the events that unfolded, ultimately leading to the devastating loss of the Divan family.
The news of the four relatives found dead just five miles from their destination has left the community in mourning and raised questions about the sequence of events leading to the fatal crash. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life’s journey and the fragility of human existence. Our thoughts are with the Divan family and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss as they navigate this challenging time.
The family’s journey, intended to be a trip of spiritual significance, has ended in tragedy, prompting reflection on the preciousness of every moment we have with our loved ones. May the memories of Kishore, Asha, Shailesh, and Gita Divan be a source of comfort and strength to those who mourn their untimely passing.
