A father in Israel has spoken out after his two daughters were discovered living in a cave in India with their Russian mother, Nina Kutina. Dror Goldstein expressed his wish for shared custody of the children, reiterating his desire to be close to his daughters.

Speaking to Indian news outlet The Hindu, Goldstein and his lawyer revealed that he had previously filed a missing persons report after Kutina left Goa with their two daughters without informing him. Upon learning about their living conditions in a cave in Gokarna, Karnataka State, Goldstein promptly flew back to India from Israel to reunite with his children.
Goldstein expressed concerns about maintaining contact with his daughters if they were to relocate to Russia, emphasising his desire for shared custody to ensure his close involvement in their lives.
Despite multiple attempts to reach out to local officials, the Russian Embassy in New Delhi, and Goldstein’s lawyer for further comments, there has been no response.
Since their discovery, Kutina has defended her lifestyle choice of living in the forest and provided insights into her unconventional journey. Kutina, who has been travelling for two decades and had two sons before meeting Goldstein, highlighted the positive aspects of their time in the cave, including activities such as art lessons and enjoying nature.
The encounter between Kutina, her daughters aged 4 and 6, and local police in Gokarna shed light on the family’s circumstances. Kutina explained her interest in staying in the forest for spiritual reasons, although authorities discovered her expired passport and visa in the cave.
Kutina’s complex history includes previous stays in India, meeting Goldstein, and the birth of their children. Tragic events, such as the loss of her eldest son in a motorcycle accident, weighed heavily on Kutina, contributing to challenges with visa status and legal issues.
The story has garnered global attention, with Kutina now facing deportation and seeking refuge at a women’s shelter with her children. Goldstein’s persistent efforts to maintain a connection with his daughters underscore the complexities of international custody disputes and immigration regulations.
As the family’s saga unfolds, the desire for shared custody and the emotional toll of separation echo the challenges faced by families across borders. The intricate web of personal loss, legal hurdles, and cultural differences exemplifies the complexity of modern family dynamics in a globalised world.
Overall, the account of the father’s quest for shared custody amidst a backdrop of unconventional living arrangements in a cave encapsulates the intersection of personal desires, legal constraints, and cultural encounters in a diverse and interconnected world.
