Megan Thee Stallion, the acclaimed rapper, recently hosted the inaugural gala for her Pete & Thomas Foundation in New York City. The event successfully raised over $1.2 million, aiming to support education, housing, health, and wellness initiatives. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the gala, Megan expressed her belief that her late parents, Joseph Pete Jr. and Holly Thomas, would be immensely proud of her accomplishments.

The foundation was established by Megan in 2022 as a tribute to her father, who passed away when she was just 15 years old, and her mother, who lost her battle with brain cancer in 2019. Megan’s dedication to carrying on her parents’ legacy was evident as she spoke about their hypothetical reactions to her work. She shared, “I feel like they can see what I’m doing right now. I feel like they’re looking down on me from heaven, and I feel like they’re like, ‘Yes, daughter.'”
Reflecting on her mother’s probable emotions, Megan added, “I feel like my momma’s so happy. I feel like she is clapping. I feel like my great grandma is so happy. I feel like my daddy is like, ‘This is exactly what I knew my child was gonna do.’ So yeah, I feel like they’re super proud.”
Accompanied by her boyfriend, Klay Thompson, Megan made a striking red carpet appearance at the gala. The couple’s public outing marked a turning point in their relationship following intimate social media posts earlier that month. Megan described their meeting as serendipitous, resembling a scene from a movie. She shared, “Oh, we met and it was such a meet cute it was like a f——- movie. I won’t tell you how and I won’t tell you when, but it was a movie.”
The star-studded gala, hosted by Taraji P. Henson, featured a performance by Muni Long and a charity auction. Notable bids included Thompson’s winning $50K bid for two Super Bowl LX tickets, Lil Uzi Vert securing a $30K bid for an Eliantte bracelet, and Fat Joe’s $26K bid for a dinner at Melba’s Restaurant for ten guests.
The Pete & Thomas Foundation’s mission, as outlined on its website, is to provide resources for positive change in the lives of women, children, seniors, and underserved communities in Houston, TX, and globally. The foundation’s initiatives focus on education, housing, health & wellness, and community goodwill, underscoring Megan’s commitment to making a meaningful impact in these vital areas.
Megan Thee Stallion’s philanthropic efforts and dedication to her family’s memory have resonated with fans and supporters alike. Through her music and charitable work, she continues to inspire and uplift communities, embodying a spirit of generosity and compassion that would undoubtedly make her late parents incredibly proud.
