Former 98 Degrees band member Drew Lachey and his wife Lea Lachey are venturing into the world of musical theatre with their latest creation entitled ‘label•less’. The couple has worked together to develop, write, and direct this new musical, which is set to make its mark Off-Broadway. After numerous performances across the country, the full production of ‘label•less’, featuring choreography by Lea, will have its grand debut in New York City next month. Theatre Row will host the limited run from March 20 to March 30, offering audiences a unique blend of live music and storytelling.

Described as a fusion of a concert and a theatrical experience, ‘label•less’ weaves together original music with popular hit songs, providing a platform for a young cast to delve into the challenges they face. Through their performances, the show aims to shed light on societal divisions and promote a message of unity and acceptance for a better future. The musical tackles sensitive topics such as race, sexuality, and mental health, encouraging conversations that resonate with all audience members on a personal level.
The show will run from Wednesday to Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m., with an additional matinee on Saturday, March 29. Prior to its Off-Broadway premiere, ‘label•less’ will preview in Kohler, Wis. on March 6, followed by Bloomington, Ill. on March 8, bringing its powerful message to diverse audiences across different locations.
Drew and Lea Lachey, who have been together since high school and tied the knot in 2000, share a long history of collaboration. Lea, known for her choreography and dance background, previously worked with 98 Degrees during the group’s heyday. The couple’s joint initiatives include the establishment of the Lachey Arts Camp in Cincinnati in 2012 and the subsequent launch of their nonprofit organisation, Lachey Arts, in 2015. The seeds of ‘label•less’ were sown in 2016, stemming from an exercise that opened their eyes to the struggles faced by their students, leading to the musical’s evolution into a poignant reflection on resilience, empathy, and hope.
The creative process behind ‘label•less’, featuring visual elements by Brave Berlin, has been a transformative journey for Drew and Lea. Drew, a seasoned performer with Broadway experience, expresses how the storytelling aspect of the show has profoundly impacted his worldview. Lea, on the other hand, finds empowerment and inspiration in collaborating with a talented team and cast, hoping that the audience will be moved to embrace authenticity and diversity.
Accompanying this venture, Drew’s band 98 Degrees will be releasing a reimagined version of their hit song “I Do (Cherish You) (98ºs Version)” featuring Katrina Velarde. Additionally, the group has digitally mastered five previously released tracks for their upcoming album, Full Circle, set for release on May 9. This week marks a significant milestone for Drew as he juggles both musical projects, showcasing his creative versatility and dedication to the arts.
‘Label•less’ tickets are currently available for purchase, inviting audiences to engage with a thought-provoking narrative that transcends labels and cultivates a deeper understanding of humanity. The Lacheys’ commitment to fostering meaningful conversations through their artistry underscores the transformative power of storytelling, leaving an indelible impact on those who experience their work. This musical journey promises to be a heartfelt exploration of life’s complexities and the universal quest for connection and acceptance.
