A reliable source has confirmed to PEOPLE that the HGTV show titled ‘The Flipping El Moussas’, starring Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa, will not be renewed. This news comes amidst a series of surprising cancellations from the network, including another home renovation show, ‘Christina on the Coast’, hosted by Christina Haack. Both Tarek and Heather have yet to make any public statements regarding this development.
‘The Flipping El Moussas’ showcased the journey of the married couple as they ventured into the world of house flipping in Southern California. The show, which premiered in March 2023, offered viewers an intimate look at their professional endeavours as well as their personal lives, especially as they prepared for the arrival of their son Tristan, who is now 2 years old. The second season saw them taking on even more challenging projects while managing life as a family of five, with Tarek also being a father to two older children from his previous marriage.
While news of the cancellation of ‘The Flipping El Moussas’ and ‘Christina on the Coast’ may disappoint fans, there is a silver lining for viewers as their other hit show, ‘The Flip Off’, has been picked up for a second season. Despite this, filming for the new season has not commenced yet. The silence from the trio regarding these cancellations is notable, although several HGTV hosts have expressed their thoughts on the recent programming changes, which also included the axing of shows like ‘Bargain Block’, ‘Farmhouse Fixer’, ‘Married to Real Estate’, ‘Battle on the Beach’, and ‘Izzy Does It’.
Prior to ‘The Flipping El Moussas’, Tarek was known for his role in ‘Flip or Flop’ alongside his then-wife Christina Haack from 2013 to 2022. Following their separation in 2016 after seven years of marriage, the couple has maintained an amicable co-parenting relationship. Tarek also ventured into hosting his solo house flipping series, ‘Flipping 101’, which premiered its fourth season in April. However, it remains uncertain whether this project will be renewed for another season.
Heather’s foray into HGTV with ‘The Flipping El Moussas’ marked a new chapter for her, having previously appeared in Netflix’s real estate docudrama, ‘Selling Sunset’. Her departure from the series after season 8 was a deliberate choice, as she desired to focus on her family and professional collaboration with her husband. In a 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Heather expressed her enthusiasm for leaving behind the drama of ‘Selling Sunset’ and embracing a fresh start with ‘The Flipping El Moussas’. She highlighted the joy of working alongside Tarek, stating that despite the challenges, flipping houses was a rewarding and exciting experience for her.
As fans await further updates on the future projects of the El Moussas and the landscape of HGTV programming, the industry continues to evolve with new opportunities for hosts and viewers alike. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
