Chloe Gong, the acclaimed young adult author, is preparing to dazzle readers once again with her upcoming cyberpunk novel, ‘Coldwire’. Set to be released this fall, the book marks Gong’s foray into a futuristic dystopian series, published by Margaret K. McElderry Books. With an exclusive first look provided to PEOPLE, fans are eagerly anticipating the unique world Gong has crafted.
In ‘Coldwire’, Gong immerses readers into a society dominated by virtual reality where a stark divide exists between the affluent residents of the “upcountry” and the struggling inhabitants of the “downcountry”. The narrative unfolds in the midst of a conflict between nations, following protagonist Eirale’s unexpected entanglement in a web of deception and rebellion. Meanwhile, fellow character Lia navigates her own challenges within the confines of the Nile Military Academy.
As the plot thickens, Eirale and Lia find themselves drawn into a compelling narrative that blurs the lines between reality and conspiracy, forcing them to confront their destinies and their interconnected roles in a larger scheme of events. Gong’s meticulous world-building and intricate character development promise a gripping and immersive reading experience for fans of the genre.
Expressing her enthusiasm for delving into the cyberpunk genre, Gong shares, “I’ve wanted to write cyberpunk for years and years — both because I love the genre and because there is so much about it that I couldn’t wait to subvert. Building the world for Coldwire has been such an adventure, and I’m incredibly excited to bring readers ‘upcountry’ where there are secrets and conspiracies galore to be discovered.”
Gong, known for her bestselling debut novel ‘These Violent Delights’, has captivated audiences with her rich storytelling and diverse character representation. With her latest venture into the cyberpunk realm, she continues to challenge conventions and expand the boundaries of young adult literature, offering readers a fresh and compelling narrative that blends elements of mystery, intrigue, and social commentary.
Fans of Gong’s work can look forward to the release of ‘Coldwire’ on November 4, available for pre-order from various retailers. As the anticipation mounts, readers are poised to embark on a thrilling journey into a world where technology, power, and identity intersect in unexpected ways.
