A 33-year-old former elementary school teacher, Nicole Ballew Callaham, has been arrested in South Carolina for engaging in an “inappropriate and unlawful relationship” with a 14-year-old male, as announced by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Greenville Police Department. The suspect surrendered herself voluntarily to the authorities on Thursday morning and faces multiple charges related to criminal sexual conduct with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to reports, the relationship between Callaham and the teenager escalated, with allegations stating that she signed the student out of school, provided transportation to his practices, and supervised after-school activities. Detectives discovered that the misconduct began in 2021 and continued for at least two years, involving grooming behaviour towards the boy during his early teenage years.
The Greenville Police Department revealed that some of the alleged criminal activities occurred within their jurisdiction and confirmed that Callaham had previously worked as an elementary school teacher. The investigation portrayed a concerning picture of an inappropriate and unlawful relationship between a teacher and a minor, resulting in the suspect facing charges of eight counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and four counts of unlawful conduct towards a child by the Greenville Police Department.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office highlighted the intensity of the suspect’s interactions with the student, noting how these repeated actions led to a prolonged pattern of abuse. The victim reportedly decided to come forward after turning 18, following a period of processing the trauma associated with the abuse. As the investigation unfolds, a parallel inquiry is also being conducted by the Clemson City Police Department.
Following her arrest, Callaham resigned from her teaching position, and the Anderson School District Five has been briefed on the ongoing investigation and charges. Her arraignment on the ACSO’s charges will precede her transportation to the Greenville County Detention Center for additional charges filed by the Greenville Police Department.
