In the aftermath of the recent acquittal of Karen Read in her second murder trial, the jury foreman is now calling on the FBI to re-examine the case to seek justice for John O’Keefe. O’Keefe tragically lost his life in January 2022, and there are lingering questions surrounding the circumstances of his death that the foreman believes need to be addressed.

Speaking to The Boston Herald, the foreman, who opted to remain anonymous, expressed concerns about the numerous gaps in the narrative and insisted that the investigation should not be halted. He highlighted the sentiments shared by several jury members, advocating for a more comprehensive probe to identify those accountable for O’Keefe’s tragic demise.
The foreman emphasised the need for federal involvement in the investigation, citing concerns about potential conflicts of interest due to the victim’s connections with local law enforcement. Criticising the initial police inquiry as inadequate, he stressed the importance of delving deeper into the events that transpired at the scene.
Karen Read, aged 45, was cleared of the charges related to O’Keefe’s death following a highly publicised and protracted legal process. O’Keefe, a Boston police officer, was discovered fatally injured outside the residence of then-Boston policeman Brian Albert in Canton, Massachusetts. The autopsy findings revealed that O’Keefe succumbed to blunt force trauma and hypothermia.
Accusations against Read alleged that she had struck O’Keefe with her vehicle while intoxicated and then fled the scene. However, maintaining her innocence throughout, Read contended that she had been unfairly targeted and implicated in a cover-up orchestrated by the police. Her defence team uncovered evidence suggesting that O’Keefe may have been assaulted by a party attendee with whom he had a longstanding dispute.
The case, which stirred controversy within the community and garnered international attention, culminated in a mistrial in July 2024 due to a deadlock among the jurors after extensive deliberations. Subsequently, the second trial resulted in Read’s acquittal of more severe charges but a conviction on a lesser count of operating a vehicle under the influence, leading to a probationary sentence.
Since the trial’s conclusion, multiple jurors have stepped forward to advocate for a reinvestigation of the case in pursuit of truth and closure for O’Keefe’s family. The foreman reiterated the collective desire to uncover the real culprits responsible for O’Keefe’s tragic fate.
The call for a renewed inquiry underscores the unresolved questions surrounding the tragic events and reflects the ongoing efforts to bring about accountability and closure in a complex and contentious case. As discussions continue regarding the need for further examination, the push for justice for John O’Keefe remains a paramount concern for those involved in the proceedings.
The revelations and calls for action from the jury foreman shed light on the complexities and ambiguities that continue to shroud this case, highlighting the importance of thorough and impartial investigations in ensuring justice and truth prevail.
